Expert Q&A

By Traci Kurtzer
Obstetrician and Gynecologist

My BBT rarely goes above 98; It's usually in the low 97s and goes into the 96s. How does this impact my fertility?

It's hard to interpret a BBT without looking at it, so I would recommend you show it to your gynecologist. From what you describe though, I'm concerned that you may not be ovulating. One way to check this is to buy commercially available ovulation test kits and start testing at about the time you would expect to ovulate based on the lengths of your cycles. If you have regular cycles and periods every 28 days, then start testing on day 13 through day 16 or until it comes back positive. If your cycles are irregular and you can't determine when you should be ovulating, then schedule a visit with your doctor.
