Expert Q&A

| By Lawrence B. Werlin Fertility Specialist | ||
My fertility doctors have said that after three years I may be perimenopausal my body is responding like a much older woman (I'm 33 years old). My husband and I have unexplained infertility. Is there any hope of my getting pregnant on my own at all? I have stopped all IVF cycles.
Your question is certainly not an easy one, since there is little information for me to base my answer. In order to determine if in fact you are perimenopausal, it would be important to look at your serum estrodiol and FSH level on day two to three of your cycle. Also, in an effort to test your ovarian reserve, a clomiphene challenge test may be indicated. Should your FSH level be dramatically elevated, and/or the clomiphene challenge test be abnormal, then it may indicate you would be a better candidate for the use of donor eggs. I know that this information is somewhat disheartening; however, if we had more information, the outlook might be brighter."
