| By Lawrence B. Werlin Fertility Specialist | ||
My girlfriend and I share the same family surname (our last name is the same, but we are not from the same family). Will a DNA test show that if we do marry and decide to have a children, whether our child will have any defects or not? Will the DNA provide some sort of "insurance" that our genes will not produce any defects?
You and your girlfriend can do genetic testing, which will tell you how similar you may be. This testing, however, will not indicate whether a child may or may not have abnormalities."
