Expert Q&A

I'm 37 years old. I have a 2 1/2-year-old daughter. I had her after two miscarriages. I lost one at 6 weeks and the other at 13 weeks when we did not find a heartbeat. It was easy for me to get pregnant then. Every time we tried I got pregnant.
We want another child and have been trying for almost a year now. I've been taking my temperature and using an ovulation kit. It all looks normal maybe only one month I got a negative ovulation response (because the lines were not strong), but I felt all signs of ovulation and my temperature was great.
I went to my OB-GYN, and she asked me to do an HSG. When I went for the test, the radiologist could not get the fluid through but did not think my tubes were blocked. She thought it was an espasm. My doctor saw the results and said she did not think anything was wrong either. She did not really look carefully at my charts but said that I might not be ovulating regularly so she started me on Clomid.
My question then is this: Is Clomid right for me, even though using the ovulation kit shows me that I ovulate very much every month, or could it be that the result from the HSG is not an espasm but there is something wrong with me, some kid of blockage? I appreciate your help very much."
There are a number of concerns with your history. First, you are 37 years old and have been trying to achieve a pregnancy for a year. Second, you have two first-trimester pregnancy losses, and I think you should be evaluated for this. And last, it appears that your HSG shows that your fallopian tubes may not be open, and although it could be due to a spasm, it may be in fact that your tubes are blocked. In view of these factors, I believe that it would be in your best interest to consult with a reproductive endocrinologist in an effort to address all of the issues."
