Expert Q&A

By Lawrence B. Werlin
Fertility Specialist

I cannot have a cycle without taking Medroxyprogesterone. Am I ovulating if I don't have a cycle? What can I do to get pregnant?

It sounds to me as though you are not having ovulatory cycles since you need Medroxyprogesterone to induce a period. What is happening is that by your taking the Medroxyprogesterone, you are taking the missing hormone, which is progesterone. Progesterone is the hormone that is produced after ovulation. I would recommend that you see a reproductive endocrinologist so that you may have a work-up undertaken."
