Expert Q&A

I am planning to get pregnant this summer and would like to know what is generally considered a good fitness plan to prepare for pregnancy. I am a runner who is just getting back into it again and I enjoy lifting weights and doing yoga as well as playing tennis and volleyball. I would appreciate any advice that you can share with me.
Make sure you read the ACOG guidelines on PregnancyToday.com for guidelines for exercise during pregnancy. With your doctor's approval, weight training and yoga during pregnancy are great. You'll feel strong and centered, both of which contribute to a better labor experience. I wouldn't suggest volleyball during pregnancy only because of the likelihood of collisions and falling. Running is also OK for as long as it's comfortable for you. It sounds like you're already off to a great start!
