Julia's Diary Entries

Greetings from Hurricane Central! Another week, another storm (now Tropical Storm Harvey). I just don't understand how my stepson, or any kids in my county for that matter, can get an education...they've been out of school at least one day a week for the past three weeks for storms. If you add that to the number of bomb threats that they've been released early for, they probably have already had a full week off from school since they started in late August. Sometimes I wonder what I'm trying to bring a child into. I mean, we used to live in Miami...and that was REALLY bad. I told my DH that I would NEVER have a child there (no offense to those who do, it just wasn't for me). Where we live now is a lot safer, but still, it scares me what kind of things go on in what I would call a normal suburban town. My step son has told me about how kids rent warehouses during the weekend and have parties that they call "raves" where they all drink and do various (and dangerous) drugs. Fortunately for us, he is not involved in all this, and we feel very lucky for that...but what will it be like when the child that I'm planning turns 16? It was hard enough to be a good kid when I was 16...can you imagine what it's going to be like when our future children go through adolescence? It's really scary...I've definitely got my parental work cut out for me!

Anyway, enough philosophy for today! On the house front, everything is going as planned. We had a little hiccup this past weekend, after we had the survey. It was thought that our garage was built 1.8 feet over an easement, which would have made it impossible to get title insurance, and therefore, impossible to get a loan. Fortunately for us, we found out that the easement is 10 feet shorter than originally thought...which gives us 8.2 feet of leeway. All of this is pretty confusing, but basically it means that the house is definitely ours!

On the baby making front, I am just patiently awaiting the arrival of AF. Because we didn't make love at the right times last month...she will definitely come around the 29th of September. In a fit of anger last month, I tore up my BBT charts...and I have decided that this month, I am taking it easy on DH. I am not going to chart my temperatures. I am still going to monitor my cervical position and fluids, as I have been pretty good at determining when ovulation is going to occur using these methods only. I also ordered one of those saliva fertility indicators. Apparently, a few days before and after ovulation, your saliva has a "ferning" pattern similar to that of fertile quality cervical fluid. With the indicator that I ordered, you place a sample of your saliva on a glass slide and let it dry for about 15 minutes. Then you place your sample in the appropriate slot, and you use the magnifying glass to view the sample. If a ferning pattern is detected...it is time to BOOGIE! I really think that this new tool is a great idea...and since it's reusable, it's definitely better than an OPK (and is really reasonably priced...you can get one for about $25-$60). We'll see how hard it is to interpret! But then, I was always good in biology!!!!

Well, that's about it for this week. Just waiting for my cycle to finish already. Since I am not your textbook 28 day cycle (in fact, it takes me close to 28 days to ovulate!), it takes a little bit more patience. I'm sure many of you ladies know that feeling. So, I will be tapping my foot until next week! Maybe I will have AF by the time of my next entry....although, that would mean a less than 14 day luteal phase...and we don't want that!

Take Care Everyone!

Julia
