Julia's Diary EntriesDiary Navigation: |
September 7, 1999
I thought that I might have some great news for everyone by today, but sadly...I don't. Sheesh -- we Americans are so used
to our holidays and 4 day weekends, that nobody at the loan office wants to stay late and work on my application so that I can
stop being fidgety and nervous! We were supposed to have approval on our mortgage loan by today (Tuesday 9/7) at the
earliest, but we called in this morning, and the representative told us not to hold our breath for today, and because of the long
weekend, we should expect to hear something by tomorrow. Still, I've been on pins and needles for what seems like forever,
so tomorrow seems like it's a long time away. I've had a picture of the house saved to send to everyone when everything is
finally signed and sealed...but it's definitely taking longer than I thought.
Like the people at the loan office, DH and I enjoyed our long weekend. Due to the nature of our jobs (we both work with fresh produce, which means that we don't have "normal" holidays because vegetable plants don't often recognize national holidays) we don't normally get long weekends or holidays free. We took advantage of the down time and went up to his sister's wedding near Pittsburgh. We had a great time, and enjoyed being close to our family for a weekend. What really surprised me was that DH let it slip to one of his nephews that we are planning on starting a family soon. They were talking about his nephew coming down to visit, and DH mentioned that he could stay in the spare room as long as he wanted, until it became a nursery. That is so unlike DH. He hates to talk about anything that isn't set in stone. He hasn't told his daughter about the house yet, saying that he is waiting until the financing goes through. DH is very much a believer in "the later you tell them, the better." In fact, I'm not so sure that he would volunteer all this personal information if he didn't have to. When we got engaged, I was the one worried about my parents reaction, so I hesitated for a few days before telling them the news. DH didn't tell his parents for weeks. It's not that he wasn't excited, or that he was nervous or anything...it was just that he really doesn't like to tell people private things about himself. I can't explain it any more than that, because I can hardly understand it. I'm a talker myself (as you can tell from this diary), and can't make myself keep personal information from ANYBODY. Anyway, I was very shocked when DH volunteered that information to his nephew...of course, we all know how families work, so everyone should know by Friday that we are going to try and have a baby. Talk about pressure!
I'm going to end my entry for this week right here. Hopefully I will be able to write tomorrow and tell everyone that the house is definitely ours. I will certainly keep everyone posted.
Take Care,
Julia
