Gerri K's Diary Entries

November 28, 2000

Hello!

Well, this entry brings me to my sixth week of pregnancy with #2. We are still so excited but the reality of pregnancy is starting to kick in. This pregnancy is already starting off different from my first.

I am finding that my mood has been less than pleasant over the past week. I think it is a combination of being really tired and all the hormones that my body has to adjust to. So, it is taking a little to get used to and I am sure in the next few weeks things will mellow out quite a bit. DH is taking the bad end of my moodiness. Poor thing is shocked because I was not this way with DD and he wasn't expecting it. We normally get along great and the last week has been a challenge for us both. I reminded him that it is just because of an overload of hormones and I just can't help it. Life with a toddler is hard enough as it is without bringing this into the equation. Even though my body needs more rest, my toddler doesn't!! Funny how that works! DH has been really helpful with DD so that makes a world of difference.

DD is already "kissing the baby" and it is just too cute! When I tell her to "kiss the baby" she lifts my shirt to expose my belly and smacks one on there!! It is really the cutest thing. She is going to love being a big sister. I have to really make it a big deal for her so she doesn't get jealous or start acting up. I think she will do fine though.

Speaking of big sister, I had a shirt made that says "big sister" on the front of it. We didn't tell my parents the news until we were visiting over the Thanksgiving holiday. I put DD in the shirt and my mom's reaction was priceless!! She looked at the shirt and I thought her eyes were going to come out of her head!! She said "are YOU!!!" and she just had the happiest smile on her face!! My dad, on the other hand, took a little coaxing from the group! DD was playing right in front of him with her shirt on and he didn't say anything so I asked him what he thought of her shirt. He said, "It is very nice." Obviously he had not REALLY seen it, so I asked him what it said. He then read it out loud and paused. Then looked at me and said, "What does this mean?" in a very curious voice. He was very happy when I told him, "Yes, you are going to have another grandchild."

I am feeling really good, thank goodness!! With DD I never had any morning sickness to speak of and so far this PG is the same. A little queasy at times, but nothing that I can't deal with. One thing is for sure, though -- this baby does not like chili!! I have had it two times so far and both times I have had a sore stomach afterwards. So, I guess no chili for me!

My first OB appointment is this Thursday, Nov. 30. I am really excited to get in there and talk to the nurse practitioner. I am hoping that they will do an ultrasound so I can see that the baby is where it needs to be. With DD they did an ultrasound on my first visit because I was considered high risk due to my previous two miscarriages. I am hoping that they will do the same with this one. It will ease my worries, if nothing else. I was spoiled with my first pregnancy too, so hopefully they don't disappoint me with this one! We will see what happens!!

Well, that is all I have to report this week. I am not sure when I will be moving on to the Pregnancy Today diaries but when I do, I hope that you all continue to follow my pregnancy journey. I have enjoyed getting to know many of you and hope that we can continue to share our journeys as many of you continue TTC and many of you will graduate.

Best regards,
Gerri K
