C#13, CD#1 - Starting first Clomid & IUI cycle!

Hi All,

First of all, I'd like to say a big CONGRATS to my board buddy, Bev, who just found out that she is pregnant after her first IUI cycle and many months of TTC. How exciting!

Well, I survived a month "off" of TTC without going crazy! If you would have told me I'd look forward to taking time off of TTC 4 mos. ago, I would not have believed it. However, it was nice not to think about getting pregnant for a month, and it was VERY nice to be off of hormones! I wish I could say I'd completely relaxed about everything, but things just seem to stay busy whether we want them to or not. DH and I have had an especially hard time lately, just because we are both so busy we don't see much of each other. I was really getting cranky (to say the least), and we ended up having a "discussion" about it this week. Things are going much better and we are making a concentrated effort to spend time together. I don't want us to get in a rut before we even have kids!

I called the RE's office to let them know my cycle was starting. The nurse said she needed to get Dr. K. to sign off on everything and then I will be going on Clomid this month, getting monitored with u/s and bloodwork, then getting the hcg shot and doing the insemination. They didn't have DH's most recent SA in my file, which I personally brought in a few days after our appointment a month ago. I hope it didn't get lost!

I'm very nervous about the injection, but I have a friend who is a nurse and she said she'd help if DH and I chicken out! I know Chris can't do it - he's really got issues with needles. And if it's an intramuscular, I certainly can't give it to myself! We'll have to see what happens. Right now, it looks like we'll have the IUI sometime between Thanksgiving and the beginning of December. I usually ovulate around day 18-20 when I'm on Clomid, but I wonder if they'll have me go earlier if I'm developing good follicles. Any info on that from anyone? Anyway, I'm glad I started when I did, because DH has to go with his kids to camp for a week the first week in December, and I didn't want to make him drive back two days in a row to do his thing! Although, you can bet I would make him do it if we had to! :)

I've mentioned before that my sister is pregnant with baby #3. Well, they had the 20 week u/s and found out it's a girl (she will have one sister and one brother). They did see something that concerned them, I think a cardiac echo (?), that is a weak link to Downs. So, they had my sister get the AFP blood test done, and her chances came back 1 in 100 for Downs, and apparently they should be 1 in 200 to be "normal." Although I've heard that this test is pretty inaccurate and doesn't always tell much about your actual chances. She has never had it done before, either, so she's got nothing to compare it to in terms of her other pregnancies. I know women whose blood tests have always come back in the high risk areas, and who have had all healthy children. Anyway, they encouraged her to get an amnio. done, which she did yesterday. The procedure itself went well, but I know it will be a long 2-3 weeks for my sister and BIL, as well as the rest of my family. We are definitely praying that all is well.

Hmmm...that's about it from here. Long enough for ya?! I hope everyone is doing well. Lots of positive thoughts!

Take care,
Laura
