TTC#1, C#6, CD#15
Hi Everyone,
First off, CONGRATS to Amy B!!! I am always thrilled to see my precon. teammates get that great news! I am sure all will go well and I wish you a happy, healthy pregnancy. Little Nathan or Maya will be very lucky to have you as a mommy!
Well, a pleasant turn of events has found me feeling MUCH more positive about our hopes for a baby. It's a rather long story, but I will try to make it as short as possible! I've mentioned before that I go to church with an ob/gyn. She and I talked a while back when I had some general TTC questions, but never as a doctor and patient. Well, on Sunday she asked me how things were going and what we'd found out. I told her about the motility issue and how my doctor didn't want to see me again until October, and she was very surprised that Clomid hadn't even been considered. So, she and I talked a bit and I decided to go in and see her. I had my appointment today and it was the best choice I've made in a while! First of all, she's so much more personable than my doctor. Yes, part of it is because we're friends, but also because she didn't dismiss my concerns. We went into her office and talked, she got my medical history and all of that info. She looked at my charts and said that, even though I am ovulating, I have a very long follicular (pre-O) phase and too short of a luteal phase. Isn't that what I was trying to explain to my other doctor all along?! I asked her about DH's motility and whether or not we should wait until he's any better, and she said I should go ahead and start next cycle. For one, we need to get my cycle under control, and also, while his motility isn't 50% and could make it harder for us to get pg, it is still possible. And, obviously, if my body's doing what it's supposed to do, our chances are even better. She did say that she would ask a colleague of hers, a reproductive specialist, if he thought anything different. Right now, our plan is for me to start the clomid next cycle (which is still a good 25 days away, mind you) and go from there. She'll also do a cd23 blood test to confirm ovulation. Best of all, she told me to stop temping and charting - darn (ha ha)! I'll be doing OPK's only.
I am so glad I made the switch. The two big reasons I didn't do it earlier were that I didn't really want to be examined by a friend, and that her office is far from my home. Well, the exam part was no big deal at all. In fact, it was so sweet, afterwards she said, "Oh, we need to do one more thing," and we said a prayer before I left. Can I just tell you what a feeling of peace that gave me? I feel so much better being able to put my cares in such a capable and caring person. As for her office being far from home, it is, but it's not too far from work, so I can deal with it. If nothing else I'll go to her until I get pg, then I may have to choose an Ob. who works out of a hospital closer to home. But first things first!
Things outside of TTC are REALLY busy! We are leaving for Savannah this weekend (WOO HOO!) and stopping to see my best friend who just had her second child last week - I can't wait! They just moved out of state in January, and I've missed her terribly. Savannah should be nice and relaxing, also. The day after we get back from our trip, I'm walking the 5K walk for breast cancer (I gave up the running idea!), then later that week I'll be going to Washington, D.C. with my students. Whew! I may need another vacation just to relax after all that! I'm looking forward to it, though.
I have written more than enough, and now it's time for kickboxing, so I will bring this saga to an end! Good luck to all of my fellow TTC'ers out there. Let's hope that the spring baby fever catches us all! Have a great week.
Take care,
Laura
