Hello Ladies,
Well, the much-anticipated urologist appointment took place this afternoon, and overall, I'd say it went pretty well. DH got to the appointment early, and I got there a few minutes late, but the doctor was running about 30-45 min. behind, so there was plenty of waiting. Also, we could hear everything he was saying because the office has very thin walls between rooms. Let me tell ya, I heard WAY more than I needed to hear about other men and their "parts"! At any rate, we were glad to get to meet Dr. Smith. He's a very nice, energetic man who moves fast (much like me - must be why I liked him). He first asked Chris some questions about his childhood, history, etc. Then he examined him. I asked if I should leave, and he said, "Only if your husband minds," which he didn't, so I stayed. I'm glad I did, because he did most of the talking during the exam (a multi-tasker - I like that! lol). He explained all the SA results, what vericocles were (which I already knew, thanks to all my ttc buds), and also explained that motility isn't neccesarilly speed, but just that the sperm swim out in any straight direction. Without going into great detail, he examined DH and said that everything looked okay. He said that one of his veins did feel a little thick, but that is usually normal, and he didn't think there were any vericocles (vericose veins in the testicles). Just to rule things out, he did set us up for DH to have bloodwork (LH, FSH, and testosterone) and an ultrasound. We went downstairs and I made the u/s appointment while Chris got his bloodwork done. He'll have his u/s two weeks from Friday, on April 13. If the u/s comes back showing that there are no vericocles, which the doctor thinks it will, then Chris will start taking Clomid. If there are vericocles, then he'll have to have surgery. I told him about the vitamins, and he said they certainly wouldn't hurt, although he didn't know how much they'd help. Chris said he'd keep taking them since they help in general, anyway (what a guy).
All in all, we're feeling pretty positive about the whole thing. And, this is making the fact that I have such long cycles to work to our advantage right now. You see, the doctor said it takes about 72 days for the new sperm to make their way down into the "holding tanks." So, I figure that if all Chris needs is Clomid, then by the time he starts taking it and those puppies get into position, I will be at the ovulating stage of cycle 8. Yes, it's still the same number of days either way, but I feel better saying that it'll only take 2 cycles to see results instead of 3! I also realize that it may take longer to see the results we want, but I am staying positive about this at this point.
In the meantime, I am going to relax BIG TIME as far as ttc is concerned. I am not going to chart or temp for the next two cycles, except for the opk and temping right around the time I ovulate. Why bother? After six months of this, I pretty much know my body's routine. I'd rather take the time to focus on other things, such as losing the weight I want to lose, gardening, house projects, grad. school, etc. I think I may start updating my entries every two weeks, as well, since there is not a whole lot going on while we wait.
As for my life outside of TTC, things are good. My nephew is 4 today! I can't believe he's getting to be so big! I just love my nephew and niece, and it is so nice having them close by. I walked the dog over to their house today to wish him a happy birthday. The party is on Saturday, so that will be fun.
Well, without making a long entry EVEN LONGER, I will say goodbye for the week! Congrats to Jennifer I. and Sandi on your ++hpt's! Here's to more of those for everyone else!
Positive thoughts,
Laura
