More worries, but what else is new?
I've been having a lot of cramping, abdominal heaviness, and back pain for a few days--sometimes pretty bad. So of course I was expecting the worst today...
The U/S (12 weeks 4 days)
They took us almost 30 minutes late and I asked for a urine test to see if I have a bladder infection (I constantly need to go--especially when I sit--it's getting worse instead of better like the PG books promised!). I provided my cup of fun and then sat in the u/s room FOREVER. I noticed the u/s screen had a big smear on it and I should have cleaned it...but I didn't. The whole time Chris pissed and moaned about them running behind so at least my annoyance distracted me. I mean, at least he was fully clothed!
Finally the nurse came in (we'd waved to Dr. H, but he was doing other things today) and I asked about my pain. She said she'd send my specimen out stat just in case and if it wasn't an UTI then she wouldn't worry about it. She was much gentler with the wand this time--no pain! I couldn't see the screen at first so for once Chris did his manly duty and told me everything was fine as soon as he could. Relief set in.
Em is a mad man/woman....that fetus didn't sit still for a second. Even the nurse was shocked by how much he/she was moving (I wasn't too suprised since at my OB appointment last week the poor doctor could only find Em's hb on the doppler for two seconds and then Em darted around like a minnow in a lake and wasn't to be found! At least now I know he/she didn't spontaneously combust as my dark fears warned.)). Given the smear on the screen and some sun glare (rather ironic since it's a crappy rain day here) I couldn't see too well. But I saw the spine (very Jurassic Park), fingers, and Em was either scratching or picking his/her nose at one point (although we couldn't see facial features so this is just a guess). Once again proof that they put back the right embryos. ;). I'm not sure what the hb rate was, but it's getting harder to see it--or at least from my angle. We were able to count two legs and two arms--all four were wildly flailing about the entire time and the nurse said he/she has a cute butt. Oh and she asked which of us has long legs (we both do)--Em's got some seriously long limbs. In fact, he/she rather looks like a grasshopper.
I asked when they can first tell the sex of a fetus and she said not until 14 weeks. My last u/s there is at 13.5 and my first OB one isn't until 16...so we'll see when we can see what. :) I guess everyone can start the predictions.
Jen
P.S. If everything is ok next week, I will ask to be moved to the Pregnancy Diaries...
