February 17, 2004

It's been a busy few days!

Friday night Dr. H called to tell me that my E2 was up to 1600 and he wanted to monitor me closely to make sure they didn't need to reduce my meds. Of course when he called, Chris answered and yelled to me (phone not covered) "It's Dr. Hottie!" I almost died--I punched Chris hard (ringed hand!) for that one. Dr. H had been so tired and sad looking that day so I made him some devil dogs (awesome family recipe!).

Chris and I went out for an early Valentine’s Day dinner that night at our favorite local restaurant (it’s a small bed and breakfast). It was wonderful! We had coconut shrimp with mango chutney, Thai spring rolls, baby greens salad and assorted yummy rolls and breads. For dinner I had grilled veggies, cous cous, and black bean cakes with garlic feta sauce and Chris had lamb (hurl). We were so stuffed that we didn’t order dessert—this makes me sad because I LOVE the desserts at this place.

Saturday we saw Dr. H and I was amazed at how cool my u/s was! My left ovary looked like the ones they show in IVF pamphlets. Dr. H told me to contain my ego. ;) I gave him the devil dogs and I could tell he was really touched...He called that night and I had to go in again the next day (E2=2342, meds left alone).

Saturday I didn’t feel like cooking so we went out for Mexican food. YUM. We scarfed down an entire plate of nachos and I could barely eat my chicken fajitas! I think I could live on Mexican food!

Dr. D (the other RE) was working on Sunday.
:( He's nice, but is very fast and rough with that u/s wand. Dr. H has never hurt me doing a check and Dr. D reminded me of the clinical fellows at RE #1, but he was praising my progress so I let it slide. Of course there was an obnoxious woman there with a three year old and she made such a to-do about that kid (her husband was kind and removed the boy from the waiting room—the kid was well behaved anyway--but the mom kept bringing him back in and playing peek-a-boo with the door and walking around telling everyone she needed a kid’s book for her son and “Oh look! They do have some here!”). I wanted to punch her or bash my own head in. Why do people have to be so clueless? There were four other women in the waiting room and they glared at her too.

Monday brought another u/s and b/w session (my arms are getting nicely bruised). Dr. H went on and on about the devil dogs--he's so funny. He made his wife dinner for V Day and said that he trusted me so much that he served her the cookies as dessert. His wife told him he'd better get me PG.:0 He was sad when I told him that they freeze well--he'd given some to the staff and had he known he would have kept them for himself. Anyway, u/s was GREAT. All my follicles are progressing very well and my lining is at 9.5mm--yup that's right—I’m actually responding well!!! My E2 was in the 3000s (3300 maybe?). So my level will be higher than it was for my last ER!

I also had an acupuncture session on Monday. The acupuncturist looked at me and asked what’s different (was it my hair?). I told her that I’m just feeling great, happy, relaxed. Basically I feel human! I really do feel so much better this cycle! Afterwards, I went to lunch with a friend and had a nice time! I went home and made Chris a cake and a nice dinner. I really can’t wait to be a SAHM!!!

Today I went in again. I have 10 follicles (22-18mm) on the left and 6-7 (20-15mm) on the right. Dr. H told me yesterday he guesses 12-15 eggs (out of 16-17 follicles). He keeps repeating that the environment is what they're going for with me--not quantity, but hell I'm stoked about how many follicles I produced. And I feel GREAT this cycle, which is odd since I usually feel like hell (must have been that damn Lupron!). My ER will be Thursday--not sure what time. I asked Dr. H if he would do ER and ET and he said "Yes, probably" and must have seen the fear or sorrow in my eyes and then said "Yes, definitely--I will do your ER and ET. Absolutely." See, baked goods DO win over REs. ;)

As an aside one good and one bad thing happened in the D. household this weekend.

Good--I asked my parents to come up for Easter and they not only agreed, but actually BOOKED their flight the next day!!! I'm so excited to see them! My mom said she was waiting to come up until I’m big and fat—I told her not to worry, thanks to the meds I already am!

Bad--When we were out to dinner on Saturday something happened to Tess and Fin. We came home to a puffed up Fin and cat food smeared all over the slider in the family room (that's the only place they'll eat their canned food. Yes they are spoiled) and on Fin as well. I tried to calm Fin down (he's very sensitive) and then Chris saw that Tess was bleeding. She had broken off one of her back claws (they have veins in their nails thus the blood). Fin saw her and she growled and he made the most ungodly sounds and attacked her. It was a true cat fight. So I'm screaming at them to stop and we're trying to grab the cats before someone gets hurt. I dashed into the 1/2bath with Fin and he was crazed--I mean I have never seen him like this. It took so long to calm him down. Then Chris and I cleaned up Tess' paw and I noticed a small pool of blood in the kitchen (from her injury). We have no idea what set them off (they love each other!), but it must have been something on the outside that scared them while they were eating and they turned on each other. So much for Valentine's Day being about love! We've had to keep them separated since--not an easy task since that means one cat has to be locked in a bedroom (and yesterday Fin escaped--damn door to our room isn't level and he jimmied the lock open--and before I knew it he and Tess were going at it again!). Chris read that they should be separated for a week...I pray that works otherwise what can I do? :( I called the vet this morning and I’m hoping he’ll tell me that everything will be ok.
