Hi!
IVF #3
IVF #3 has begun. I took my first BCP this morning. My protocol is quite different this cycle so I’m very eager to see how it plays out! I’m on BCPs for 19 days (I was originally told it was 14 days, but I guess something changed) and will start baby aspirin at the same time. The day after I stop BCPs I go in for b/w and an u/s. I should start stims (Gonal-F and microdose HCG shots) on or around February 5th. My retrieval should be sometime the week of February 16-20th. So not long now! Unfortunately, this means that Chris and I can’t go to England as we’d hoped (Chris was supposed to go for work around the 10th and I was going to tag along). Oh well, maybe next year with can bring our baby/ies. :)
My Kitties
We brought the cats for their annual exams last weekend. They are both healthy (although neither was particularly happy that day ;)). Poor sweet Fin buried his head in my jacket the whole time—he’s very attached to me and I to him. He is such a love, but he worries me so. He’s now 3 years old and is still such a little runt! He isn’t interested in food and only weighs 9.8 lbs and is obsessed with water (we have to repeatedly change his water—in his presence—or he gets very upset!). The vet assures me that this is good—he’s nice and lean, but I’m just paranoid about having another terminally ill cat. We got Fin three weeks after our beloved Glish was put to sleep and I swear he is Glish reincarnated.
But on to our little fluff ball diva Tess, who was on good behavior for a change (the vet nicknamed her “Demon B*tch” years ago because she has such a temper!) and only growled when the vet and tech touched her (oh ok or LOOKED at her—no one’s perfect, you know!). She puts on such an act—you think she’s going to kill someone when in truth she’s harmless. The vet never believes me on that one though! But she has definitely calmed down over the years and was almost a lady—and a plump one at that; she’s up to 12 lbs now. ;)
It’s a little hard for me to be at the vet’s office. We spent a lot (and I mean A LOT) of time (and money!) there when Glish was so sick (this was 1997-2000)--we lost him to CRF (chronic renal failure) that was caused by some genetic anomaly wherein proteins built up in his bloodstream and destroyed his kidneys. As the vet said “It was the worst thing to happen to the best cat.” He was diagnosed when he was only 4 years old and for 2.5 years we gave him daily fluid treatments (and intensive treatments at the vet’s office), as well as all sorts of medications. He was the most amazing being I’ve ever know (of any species) and to this day I know I will miss him always. He was my soul mate. He was loved by everyone—even our vet—and he loved everyone with such genuine depth of feeling it was beyond words. His condition progressively worsened and in September of 2000 (the 7th to be exact) it was time to let him go. It was the hardest and most selfless act—we didn’t want to lose him, but we couldn’t let him suffer. So Chris and I held him while the vet ended his pain. Then we all sobbed (vet included).
As you can imagine, we got to know the vet quite well over those years. He’s about our age (and is the original Dr. Hottie!!!) and we’d just spend hours talking with him. So now when we go to see him (or rather when we bring the cats to see him ;)), we just chat. Of course this time, the first thing out of his mouth was “Hey, where are the strollers? I expected a couple by now.” There was a new tech in the room otherwise we would have shared our tale of woe. Instead I just said “someday...”
Shopping!
After the vet’s visit, we made our 4th trip to the furniture store that week. We’ve been on a mission to find the perfect chair for our bedroom. Its sole purpose is to be used when Chris plays PS2 or Xbox (yes, he has BOTH. Ugh). I couldn’t take the ugly old desk chair anymore so we spent $800 on a nice new chair. (I figure if I can’t spend our money on baby stuff then I’m spending it on something else!). Of course we won’t have it for 8 weeks, but that’s ok...I won’t have a baby by then either. ;)
Hope everyone is well--please stop by my board, it's lonely there these days!
Jen
