Holiday greetings ladies,
Everyone staying warm in this cold weather? Snow is in
the forecast today and although I do like snow on
occasion, like Christmas Eve and Christmas morning, I
do not enjoy it when it comes during the week when we
all have to get to work. We tend to get the worst of
the weather no matter what the season. Wind chill,
blizzards and sleet in the winter, floods and tornados
in the spring, heat index and high humidity in the
summer, and usually early snow in the fall. I suppose
I can't complain, I do live in Nebraska!
Speaking of Nebraska ... there is something in the water over here, ladies! In the past few weeks, two of my girlfriends have announced their pregnancies! One of my girlfriends, Stacy, whom I went to high school with, called me last week to find out how I was doing and to let me know she is expecting at the end of June. Hooray! She had a son last year and he'll turn 1 in January, so this will be their second bundle of joy! We're planning our high school reunion this year, and since we'll only be two weeks apart, we get to decide whether we want to be REALLY REALLY PG during the reunion or if we want to be POST FLABBY. It's going to be fun to be PG together and to know our little ones will have playmates! My other girlfriend, who is also my coworker, just found out days ago that she's expecting in August. Now I'll have someone to waddle around work with! Wow! I never would have expected that two of my close friends would be PG with me! I'm glad I'll be able to share my experiences with both of them. Anyone wanting some Nebraska water to drink, just let me know! Hee, hee! *smile*
We had our doctor appointment on Dec. 7. DH and I ended up waiting an hour (yes, I did say an hour!) in the waiting room before we even got back to our appointment, because for some reason they didn't have me down even to see the doctor. They told me that they would "fit me in" anyway, but they forgot to mention the part about waiting an hour. We finally got back and the nurse does all her usual stuff, blood pressure, weight, family history, etc., then they took us back to an exam room. Sitting on the table was a bag of "goodies" for parents-to-be. DH swipes up the sack and starts going through it like a kid on Halloween night. It was the funniest thing. He takes out this cute little travel changing pad, with bunnies and ribbons on it, opens it up, and finds travel-sized Enfamil packets. He yells, "Oh cool, look at this." I chuckled and said, "Did you ever think you'd be sitting there getting all psyched up over Enfamil?" It was cute and definitely something to remember.
The visit with the doctor went perfect. She (Dr. H) gave me the results of the ultrasound and said everything looked really good. She gave me a quick exam and said the uterus is growing wonderfully and that as far as she can tell, everything is going A-OK. What a relief to hear those words! She said that the ER never sent over any pathology reports from our fiasco on Thanksgiving, but that she would get the ball rolling and find out what the deal was. She told us she'd call with the results within a day. She then told us all the basics, answered all our questions, and made us feel very comfortable. Both DH and I really like this doctor. She's so fun, yet at the same time very knowledgeable and honest. We are very happy to have chosen her as our OB.
She also gave me a new prenatal vitamin with time-released B6 to help with my nausea. So far, so good ... three days of taking it and the "morning sickness" hasn't been as bad. Yeah!!! Dr. H also said that just to be on the safe side of things, she wants us to come back in two weeks, when I'll be 10 weeks along, so that she can hear the heartbeat with the Doppler. If at that time she hears the heartbeat with no problems, she will definitely sign us off the "iffy" list (lowering my chance of miscarrying to less than 2 percent, which is normal during the first trimester) to the "it's a go" list. If by some chance, she has trouble hearing the heartbeat, or if she detects a problem, she'll wheel in the ultrasound machine and give us one right there to try to detect what's happening. Until our next appointment, she told me to take it easy and restricted my lifting to 20 pounds. All in all, she's pretty sure everything is going smoothly and she doesn't foresee any problems. DH and I left the office with smiles on our faces!
So, until our next appointment, that's about all. I will probably want to move to the Pregnancy Today diaries after that appointment, so I'm hoping you'll all join me over there!
Best wishes to you all and happy holidays!
Hugs, Jennifer
P.S. I almost forgot to tell you all ... Dr. H's nurse called me a day after our appointment to let me know of the pathology report. Iit was ONLY a blood clot and DID NOT contain any fetal tissue! Yippy!!!!! She said that what probably happened on Thanksgiving was that the little one must have nestled so deep into his/her little home that some of the lining shed. What a relief and thank you God!
