Courtney's Diary EntriesDiary Navigation: |
November 19, 2001
I have finally updated my diary. Sorry it has taken so long but I really had nothing to say. I would like to say congrats to any new pg or babies! Yay team!
I don't know if I have said this already or not but welcome back to the Maple Leafs Tomas Kaberle. What a great addition he has been since signing his contract at the end of October.
On to ttc. Well we aren't officially back in the saddle but we are getting closer. The Re expects af to come within the next 35 days. We are going to start ttc next week but have no idea where I am in my cycle since I haven't really had af since Sept. We were hoping to get aggressive when I start cycling again but that appears to have been stopped. At the RE this morning we had our consultation. Due to my overreaction to fertility meds the RE feels it would be a health risk to do injectibles or IVF. So we are back to IUI and Femara. When af appears I will take 3 Femara pills on day 3 and then go in for monitoring. When I O then we will do IUI. If 3 pills are not enough we will play with the dose for up to 3 cycles before adding something to the mix. The RE mentioned that I either underreact (no eggs) or overreact (20 eggs) no in between. This new protocol significantly reduces my hopes of having a baby by next Christmas. I guess I will have to hope that I will be pg by next Christmas.
My RE is sure we will get pg over the course of the next year but I don't like the length of the time he is looking at. I know I have to be patient but with my family history of cancer looming in the background I am getting nervous. I will be 27 in Feb the same age my mom was when she had me. She developed cancer just after her 30th birthday, my grandmother developed it around the same age. While the RE doesn't see any indication that it is active in me, he also didn't think I had a higher risk of developing it than anyone else. I question this but he's the Dr not me.
So as it stands we will continue with the light fertility meds to see how I react. We can only increase them if I react normally. The RE showed me the latest stats for Femara and showed that 27% of cycles result in a clinical pg and only 14% of clomid do. I told the RE that unless they were in the exact situation that I was those stats don't really mean a lot to me. He agreed that do to my many freakish reactions to many things I cannot be compared to anyone .. lol This made us laugh. Well hopefully we will be successful and I will move on to the pg diaries before the end of 2002.
Thanks for reading!
Courtney
