Hello my beautiful friends! LOL If you have been to Cuba you have likely heard that phrase. I heard that many times everyday and it always made me laugh. I got back from Cuba at 3:30 this morning and just got around to posting. I don't know where to begin. First I want to say congrats to our new ++++'s I am so happy for you. Now on to our trip.
We left from Toronto at 8am April 30 and arrived in Varadero about 11am. I watched What Women Want on the plane and laughed my butt off. What a funny movie that is. After waxing my legs for the trip I truly died when Mel Gibson waxed his in the movie. I could not control myself. At the resort we got into our room very quickly and headed straight to the beach. Beautiful white sand and aquamarine water. Just like I had pictured. What a dream come true. Dinner was wonderful, drinks plentiful and entertainment amazing. The people at the resort would do anything to make you happy. We left small tokens for our maid and she in return left us little thank you notes and things made out of the towels.
We took two trips while we were down in Cuba. One was to swim with the dolphins. If any of you ever have the opportunity to do this I strongly recommend you do it. What an experience!!! I would do it all over again if I could. The second trip we took was a 2 hour Jungle Tour. We rode jet skis through the mangroves and along the shore of the ocean. Fabulous! Dh drove while I sat behind admiring the view and soaking in the sun. I even got to hold an alligator at this mini zoo. Sometime I will scan the photos and post them on a site for all to see.
We were told that the food in Cuba is not very good. I must say that those people who found this must not have been staying at the same resort as us. The food was just as good as everything else. At breakfast we had eggs made to order, waffles made right in front of you, as well as anything else you could think of. At lunch we had french fries, burgers, hot dogs, sandwiches all by the poolside. At supper we had our choice of the buffet (a different theme each night), or 3 sit down restaurants where you order from the menu. I could not have asked for more.
The nightlife. Well dancing is big in Cuba and we made it to a real Cuban club to see the dancing first hand. On our second night there we went to the Mambo Club. If you have ever seen the movie Mambo Kings it was straight out of the movie. Blew me away. At the poolside every day they had Dancing Lessons. They taught people the Mambo, Cha cha cha, Salsa, etc. It was quite fun. Now as you may know the Leafs were playing when I was in Cuba. A lot of you are likely aware that Americans are not suppose to travel to Cuba. This meant that the majority of the people at the resort were fellow Canadians (the rest were Europeans). Every game night we all united in the Piano Bar attached to the main building to watch the game (ESPN baby even in Cuba). What a sight to see. My husband said "You can take the girl out of Canada but you can't take the Canadian out of the girl". I lead the cheering and screaming as the Leafs won 3 out of the 5 games while I was there. Well actually the last game was last night and we got the score from the pilot while we were in flight (only in Canada). LOL We had the Cuba bartenders and waitresses cheering everytime we scored. What an experience.
hmmm I am trying to think if there is anything else that happened while we were down there. I can't really think of much else. On the flight home we watched the movie Miss Congeniality. I liked it made me smile. Well I should wrap this up it is getting long. I would definately recommend Beaches Varadero to anyone who is looking to travel to Cuba. As the song goes "Beaches beaches beaches Cuba ... la la la la la ..."
Oh yeah I am cd 4 today and have an RE appointment on Tuesday to discuss the lap. That is my update.
Cheers!
Courtney
