Corinne C's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

October 4, 2000

TTC # 1, C12 CD23

Hi guys! I had to send in another entry because I have a dilemma. I am so sorry to write so much all the time, but bear with me, I just need your advice on something and you are the only ones that I can share this with. Well, as I already mentioned, Charles will be having his first SA on Oct. 6. Charles and I were thinking of freezing this -- uggghhhh -- sample, for future use in the event that something happens and he can't make it up to Conn. on that fateful day of my ovulation/IUI. He swears up and down that he will come up no matter what, but I would rather be safe than sorry. However, there are three reasons why I am not sure about doing it:

1) Frozen sperm are not as great as fresh, which makes perfect sense when you think about it. However, frozen is better than nothing, if that is what it comes down to.

2) It costs $150 for them to freeze and hold onto the sample for you. We already have to pay $350 for the analysis of the sample so we're up to $500 already if we choose this route. I don't mean to be cheap, seeing that my insurance has covered absolutely everything else, but why spend $150 unnecessarily if Charles will actually be there in person?

3) (This reason is what makes me hesitate most.) Something freaks me out about putting Charles' specimen on a refrigerator shelf somewhere and taking it out for later use. What if there is a mix-up and they impregnate me with some other guy's sperm??? We know my track record for luck and it would be just mine to have some horrible screw-up like that happen. Could you imagine???

Anyway, what would you do? (I realize that by the time this posts, the 6th will have come and gone, but it would be nice to know your opinions for future reference in case we have do the IUI several times). So many decisions to make, I just don't know what to do myself. Well, I have a whole (ha!) two days to think about it. I'll be sure to let you know how it all goes next week. Wish us luck!

Love always,
Corinne
