October 5, 2000
I would normally be at work right now, but I decided that I have enough vacation and I could use the time to study and chill a little bit. I finally get to do something exotic, RELAX!! It’s so nice.
Monday I went shopping with my mother-in-law, Angelika, and yesterday DH and I went on a bike ride to a farm that has lots of chickens and sheep (some of my favorite animals!!) Friday is my father-in-law’s 60th birthday, so we’re getting ready for that. We’re making a Peking duck. I don’t really know what it is but it sounds good. There will only be the parents-in-law, and DH and I who will be there on Friday. But in three weeks he will celebrate it at a restaurant. He rented out the ballroom there and it should be pretty big. All of the family will be coming from all of the corners of Germany, except for DH’s cousin, Susanne, who is due to give birth to her first this week. I can’t wait to see the pictures. This will be the first child of the next generation in Stefan’s family! Exciting!
Last night Stefan and I watched an interesting show on TV about women who are trying to conceive. The show followed two women who have completely different stories. The first couple had male factor infertility; the little guys barely swam. It was amazing what they showed. They took one of the best swimmers and injected it into the egg. The next day they showed the divided cells, etc. The woman gave birth nine months later to a healthy baby girl. The other story was of a woman who carried a gene for a disease -- I forgot the name of it. Anyway, it only affects boys and they only live to be about 13 or 14 years old. The woman wanted to have a girl instead. The first time she was pregnant, they tested to see if the baby had any birth defects. It turned out that the baby had an 80 percent chance of having this disease (it was a boy). The woman aborted the baby and started to try again. Later it turned out that the baby was OK, no disease!!
I don’t think I would ever want to know that information -- it would be so difficult to have to live with. I don’t know if I could say that I would have an abortion in the case that the child would have a life threatening disease or not, I really don’t. Stefan and I talked about that for a while. I just hope we don’t ever have to face that decision. But we also learned that in Belgium they have a way of finding out the sex of the baby after one or two days. It’s amazing what kind of technology there is out there. I just hope we don’t have to use it, but it’s nice to know it is there.
I’ve been taking my temperature since day 13 since I lost my thermometer. My temps have been about a degree higher than my last cycle. It’s kind of weird. Since I didn’t O last time, I don’t really know how much my temp should go up. I don’t know if I O'd or not but my temp is still at 97.9 degrees. Last month it was about 96.9 – 97.4 degrees. I have been having super sore BBs though. Hmmm. Maybe my temp just naturally fluctuates so much. DH and I BD'd a lot around days 12-24. I’m on day 25 right now; we’ll see what happens. Maybe I O'd (!!!!!!).
Congratulations to Janet once again! Know that I’m sending positive thoughts to everyone out there!
Love,
Cindy
