Introduction
Hello all!
Here is the rest of my intro, I will apologize in advance if I ramble on:
I am 23 and my dh is 29 and we live in Sarasota, Florida.
My dh (James) and I were married on May 13, 2000. Almost immediately I want to start trying for a baby but we waited to be married a year and have our fun...we had also been dating for almost 2 years by then. My dh has a son from a previous marriage, he is 8 now and my dh was divorced in 1997. To make a long story short I do not get along very well with my stepson's mother as she has never been there for him and treats him like crap, but anyways...
So, after a year I stopped my BCP's and we started trying. I have always had regular period's so I thought it would happen right away, but it didn't. After a couple of months, I was due for my regular Pap test so I got it done and to our surprise it came back abnormal! I was in shock and scared and so was my dh because all my doctor's nurse told us was that I had precancerous cell's on my cervix...I had never had a problem before so I was very nervous. Anyways, I got referred to an OB/GYN and after having cryosurgery, an outpatient LEEP, and many more Pap smears, it was still there and even got worse!! I was very discouraged and to top it all off I was still not pregnant! I went through every month thinking this is it and to my disappointment another BFN on the tests. So finally my dr. did an inpatient LEEP and put me to sleep in case he had to do extensive cutting like a cone biopsy or worse. And still, no change! I was followed by him for almost 6 months and no change, the dysplasia was still there.
Finally, I began to have bad pelvic pain during my periods so they ordered an ultrasound, and they found what they thought was a cyst on one of my ovaries that was the size of a grapefruit!! So, back to surgery for me, I had an inpatient laparoscopy done and what they found was a tumor on my fallopian tube instead. How bizarre is that, my dr. said it was really rare. But, fortunately we found the answer to our question of not being pregnant yet, both of my tubes were blocked!! So he had to cut most of the one away with the tumor and sealed it shut, but the other he opened and cleaned out the scar tissue.
Surprisingly enough, when I went for my checkup 6 weeks later, which included a routine Pap, my dysplasia was gone!! Finally it was gone! That surgery was done in August 2002 and I believe without it I would never have this miracle baby growing inside me.
Tracking back...after we waited a year of trying to get pg, the first thing my dr. did was test my dh's sperm and it came back low count and white blood cells so after an antibiotic, he had it redone and still the count was low but the infection was gone. He referred us to a fertility dr. who redid the count and said it was low normal and ok but did an HSG on me and it showed that both of my tubes were blocked...(that was a month before the pelvic pain and ultrasound)so I was fortunate enough to have my tube cleared and fixed and paid for by insurance because my dr. was already in there for the removal of the tumor. It is funny how things work out. (In Florida, insurance does not pay for fertility related treatment.) So after I had the surgery we were told to wait six months and try to get pg by ourselves and then seek treatment from our fertility dr. So February was 6 months and nothing happened so I made an appt. with the fert. spec. on March 5. We saw him and he said that our best option was IVF since I only had one tube and dh's count was low normal range. So we talked it over and were ready to go ahead and were to start the process once I got my period which should have been around March 11, 2003. To our surprise March 11 came and went and no AF so I waited thinking it was delayed by stress and when March 15 came I began to wonder what if? So of course having a pg test at home I took it and it was a BIG FAT POSITIVE!!!! I could not believe it and I didn't because I was too scared to be hurt if it wasn't true so I told my dh and I took another with him, again ++++, but I still did not believe it! The next morning I took 2 more test and they were also positive! We were thrilled but scared at the same time. So finally it was a happy ending to our long and sad road with infertility.
Next time I will write about what happened next and how we told our family and everything leading up to the present time.
Thanks for reading!
Jamie
