Catherine's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

December 10, 2003

Hard to imagine that in 21 short days we'll be into 2004! The passing of time lately has really been on my mind. I think a lot back ten years when I was 13 and very into books and music. And it was 9 years ago on New Years Eve when I met Jeff. I just feel like I've come a long way in 10 years, and I still have a long way to go!

After the hurricane, flooding, tornadoes, bad storms and no power, comes an earthquake. Yes, that's right. Virginia had an earthquake. I'm sure some of you heard it on the news but that's all everyone seems to be talking about here! I'm guessing that earthquakes are rare here? I didn't feel it but it was only a 3.5 on the Richter scale so it wasn't much. Coming from Utah that has earthquakes frequently that was just a baby shake.

Anyway, I'm feeling in a better mood than my last entry. Maybe the Christmas lights on my tree and in my window or the great Christmas music I listen to almost 24/7 are helping to cheer me up now but I'm feeling very happy and confident in me. Which is a new and very nice development. I'm trying to think of how thankful I am to have a job and a husband who loves me and a chance to spend Christmas with him and thinking about Christ and all He did for us. I don't want to get too religious for everyone but I also didn't want to go this Christmas season without mentioning Him.

On the ttc front, I have finally oed! And boy was it a dramatic O if I ever saw one! Up almost a full degree which is abnormal for me. But not unwelcome! Because of such a dramatic temp jump I'm feeling awfully confident about this cycle (4 dpo now). And I keep trying to tell myself that if it doesn't happen now, no worries. Things will work out.

It snowed since I've last written and that was very fun. It didn't snow much but you'd think people were running from the plague how they acted with it. But I suppose they don't get much snow here so it's harder on them than other places in the country. It's supposed to snow again this weekend and I'm looking forward to that. Especially since it'll be on a day where I don't have to drive to work (hopefully) and I won't have to fight bad traffic.

We also went and visited a few friends of ours in Hershey, PA for the day. They live on campus at the Hershey Milton School as house parents. We got to see their house (minus their kids since they went home for Thanksgiving) and Jeff LOVES the fact that they have their own basketball court in the house! We had a great time with them and with their little boy.

Thanksgiving was nice, if a little tearful for me. I really missed my family and I called my Nana's house to talk to all my extended family, which was fun but brought tears to my eyes as well. I miss them. I made a turkey breast, mashed potatoes, rolls and veggies which all turned out to be very tasty. It was nice to have a quiet day to spend with Jeff, although it felt more like a Saturday than anything. We put up our Christmas tree that day and had a good time talking about all the ornaments we have. My parents always bought us an ornament from Hallmark each year and it's been fun to see them on my parents’ tree and then on my own tree. I hope to be able to do that with my own kids soon.

We're still looking into getting our own house but we're waiting for next year to really start into it. I'm sure we'll find something nice, we just have to wait for it. If only waiting for a baby was this easy!!

I have been enjoying myself reading some of my old childhood favorite books and let me just recommend some to you. “Beauty” by Robin McKinley is fabulous and I think I’ve read that one 7 or 8 times in the past 4 years or so. It’s a retelling of Beauty and the Beast and it’s a very nice, fast read. Also, “A Lantern in Her Hand” by Bess Streeter Aldrich is good, but I remember it being better as a child. Now I just thought it was fairly preachy and the characters a little flat but it’s based on a true story of the pioneers and the prairie and still a great read. And the one I’m enjoying currently is “Mrs. Mike” by Benedict and Nancy Freedman, which is all about a Boston girl falling in love with a Canadian Monty in 1907 and their life together. It’s fascinating and very enjoyable. So if you’re looking for good books to read, you’ve got 3.

Have a Happy Holiday season!
