June 23, 2001
Hello everyone! It is almost 11 a.m. on Saturday morning and I just got my lazy butt out of bed. I had a very long day at work yesterday along with my RE appointment in the middle of it so I was zonked and slept way to long. Oh well, I better do it now because when I have children it will not be an option.
On to the appointment, I am very impressed with my new doctor, Dr. Amesse. He only deals with infertlity so I hit the jackpot.
First off the nurse did the usual height, weight, blood pressure, pulse, etc. Next she took me into his office where the doctor and I went over my previous medical history for oh I'd say an HOUR. He then took me back to the exam room and I had an breast and pelvic exam done. I have to fax my operative report to his office when I go to work tonight. I just got back from the hospital and picked up a copy of my HSG films so I am done with my follow up part.
Dh has to have another SA done at the Andrology lab at the hospital. Now I will wait for cd1 and call his office and that will start a list of tests as follows:
cd3 - bloodwork (FSH, LH, EZ, Anaros, DHEAS, Prolactin and TSH)
cd5 - 9 50 mg of serophene 2x a day
cd10 - bloodwork (FSH, LH and EZ)
cd11 or 12 - ultrasound and will bring injectable medication.
Ok from there he is going to see if I ovulate and how many eggs I produce and so on. He is also testing my thyroid because my sister has a hyperthyroid condition. He is also concerned with checking my prolactin levels. The doctor is going to review my HSG films and there might be a possiblity I have to have a lap. done again to check the condition of the fimbra portion of my fallopian tubes. He does not think they are picking up the eggs possibly because of scar tissue. Our next step is IVF. Dh and I talked about this last night shortly. I have so many thoughts running through my head I just can't make a decision right now.
Rob has offered to sell his custom Harley Davidson that his dad built him to pay for the initial $10,000. payment for IVF. Isn't he just wonderful?! First I want to wait and see how I do on all the tests and how his repeat SA is though.
To compound all of this yesterday considering I was somewhat in tears when I left the appointment, I had to go back and work another 4 hours at work from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. because a co-worker called in sick.
I don't know why I was so upset he could have given me much worse news. I am a very emotional person anyway so as soon as I walked out into the parking garage the tears started flowing. Now I know why there were so many boxes of tissues throughout his office.
To end my entry here is the doctor's verdict:
The doctor's exact words were "If I were to bet money, I would have to say I think you are going to need IVF to concieve a child because of the scarring and previous infection of your one and only fallopian tube in the fimbra portion. I just don't think the fimbra portion is picking up the eggs." Oh yes, I almost forgot one thing I do have unicornate uterus with only one fallopian tube which is open as of last September.
Well until my next cd1 have a great time in this summertime weather.
