Jackie's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

August 13, 2002

Hi everyone! Well, I made it through the first 2 weeks and survived! It was a little hairy at first but now it seems to be smooth sailing.

It took a few nights for my precious Madeline to adjust to the new house (my parents house who she visited every Sunday) but since then, she has been sleeping every night. She is in hound heaven! She gets catered to by everyone. After all, who could resist those sad eyes looking up at you???

The new house is moving right along. These builders are very quick- in one week I went from having basement walls to it being framed with a roof, shingles and all the windows and doors. They are supposed to put the siding up this week and then they move into the inside. That's when the real wait will begin. The are saying once they start on the inside that it will be about 6 weeks so that will put us in at the end of September! Ya!

On the ttc front

I have been after Brendan for a while to go back to the urologists and talk to him about having the varicocele operated on. When we were there 2 years ago, the UR said that he didn’t think that with the size of the vein, that correction would yield us the results we were looking for. He told us that we should go onto IVF/ICSI and not pursue this at this time. So being the good little patient that I am, that's want we did.

So, I have been on Brendan for about a month now, reminding him on a daily basis to call. He must have just gotten sick of my emails and scheduled the appointment. After the UR examined him, he told Brendan that the varicocele was much larger now and he thinks that he actually felt 2! He told Brendan that he 100% recommended surgery. He told Brendan that based on the improvements in his count which he just got from taking all those vitamins, that this surgery should yield great results. And, he said that we should be within the limits of doing an IUI and that the surgery would also give great improvements to the quality of his sperm. Needless to say, I was so happy. Finally some improvement. He told Brendan that we should wait until 6 months post-op before we make any long time plans. He also said that he wants to have me checked to see if I have any immunity problems that would cause me not to get pregnant by Brendan. Within the next 2-3 weeks Brendan will have the surgery. The UR told him that he would immediately be able to see if the surgery corrected the problem though he will not be able to tell the level of correction. Don’t know how all that works but I was certainly glad to hear!

Our game plan

We decided that instead of pursuing DI immediately, we are going to wait until we have 3 mo and 6 mo results from Brendan’s SA's after the surgery. Once we know those results, we are going to give IUI another chance. In the meantime, Brendan has agreed to start Proxeed and acupuncture at the UR's request. So now we are back to the waiting game!

Hugs to everyone! And welcome all the new diary writers!
