Jackie's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

March 20, 2002

Hello Ladies! Thank you everyone for such a warm welcome on the diaries. I think that I have found a home!

As I commented on in my first entry, Brendan and I have already been through 2 cycles of IVF. We were lucky with our last cycle that we ended up with a few precious embryos that made it to Day 5 and we were able to freeze. So we are transferring them sometime at the beginning of April. A Frozen Embryo Transfer (FET) is a little different than a regular IVF cycle. The good thing is that I don’t have to take all those hormones that put me in a tailspin but I do have to take del Estrogen shots that are similar to the Progesterone shots. They are in a very thick oil but thicker than the prog shots and they are given in the muscle. Last night was my very first one and I survived to tell about it! LOL Brendan is a very good nurse I must say- I didn’t feel a thing. When he was pulling the needle out, I realized that he had already done the shot. I wanted to jump up and down and scream but I was afraid that he would think that I had lost my mind! I will take these shots every 3rd day until the 28th when I go for a lining check. Then the RE will decide if its time to add the prog shots (ouch!) and get me ready for transfer.

On another note, I wanted to mention the Andrea Yates trial and tragedy that has happened. I know that everyone has their opinions about this and I am not in any way condoning the issue of murdering your children, so please do not misunderstand. I just think that this trial was a tragedy for all women because it downplayed PPD. There are a ton of women out there that suffer from PPD and never get diagnosed correctly because the majority of doctors do not believe in the disease. My prayers go out to her family and every family that has suffered from this horrible disease. I have a friend that I have watched struggle from the disease for years without the help of doctors.

I would also like to give a special thanks to Aimee. You have truly been a cheerleader for me and have encouraged me every step of the way. You are a wonderful friend and I could not have made it through the last couple of weeks and months without you. Thank you so much Aimee for your warm and wonderful welcome and also your wonderful note in your recent entry! We are going to be the “sweep” sisters, just you wait and see!

Hugs,
Jackie
