Candace W's Diary Entries

Happy early Halloween to everyone! I love Halloween. It is one of my favorite holidays. I used to love to go trick-or-treating when I was a kid. I wonder if I'll feel the same when my child(ren) want to go. It just doesn't seem safe anymore. I have prepared for Halloween somewhat here. We bought a ton of candy, which is actually funny. Last year we didn't get one trick-or-treater. We live in a secluded area, with only three houses (only two are occupied) down here, so that's why. I carved up two pumpkins, one with a nice happy face and the other (which Al actually did) with an evil face. I must admit, for his first pumpkin he did a great job. I did all the work, though. I gutted them both. I also am roasting the seeds. I love roasted pumpkin seeds. The holidays are such fun!

I can't wait until Thanksgiving and colder weather. I am so sick of 84-degree days. I hail from around Chicago (West Chicago, to be exact) and to be transplanted in the south ... I'm just not accustomed to it. It's too warm here for my liking. There's no transition from summer to fall. One day you have the air conditioning on, the next day you're using the heat.

Speaking of the holidays, I am struggling with whether or not we should go up to my parents' for Christmas. We don't want to both go and leave the house unattended; it just doesn't seem smart to do that. I wasn't thinking, and already told my parents we would be up there. I don't know how we're going to do it. We don't have anyone we trust who could stay over night and watch the place while we're gone. I would like to take our car and drive up there by myself with Alexandria, but I don't think that's reasonable. I refuse to take the train up there. I don't want to be a captive audience at my parents' house the entire time. I am just so torn. So, if anyone has any solutions, let me know. I used to go up there by myself, but now without Al, it wouldn't seem right.

I've been keeping busy with classes. I still haven't had my chicken pox shot, and it might be postponed until Alexandria is at least 1 year old. I might wind up getting (from the shot) the real thing, and I think it would be better if we got vaccinated at the same time. I hope we don't both get it, which would be lousy.

Well, I need to do some homework. I hope everyone has a fantastic week!
