December 22, 1999

Hello my sweets...

Well, today was a banner day, and I hope tomorrow is even better.

Went for blood in the morning, then a couple of hours at work, then back to the RE at noon for a sono -- many large eggs! At least five are over 20mm... so things look good. Then my estradiol level comes back at 1484 pg/ml!!! Onna.org lists the normal level at 200-600 pg/ml for one follicle at about 18mm, so I'm looking great there... plus my sono showed that my endo lining was especially big and fluffy -- ready to take any fertilized eggs and grab on! RE scheduled us for an intrauterine insemination (IUI) for 4:00 p.m. tomorrow (Thursday, Dec. 23). The only thing is that DH has issues with "ejaculating on command" -- most of the time he's OK but we did have one disaster that resulted in a missed IUI... so to cover our bases, so to speak, we went from the RE's office this afternoon to a hotel on 8th Avenue -- got a room at the "daytime rate" and had ourselves a nooner!! It was a lot of fun, and really very sweet and loving... then I headed back to work!! With a big grin on my face, too! So now DH's spermies have 24 hours to regenerate (his count is very good, so that's enough time) and then our plan is to go to the lab, and actually Do The Deed, with a little coitus interruptus in order to collect his sample -- then they get washed and concentrated, and we go crosstown to doc's lab for the insemination!! I figure that actually Doing The Deed will make things easier on DH. We have enough stress in our lives as a result of this TTC thing, and anything either of us can do to make it easier, we try to do.

So needless to say, I'm excited about tomorrow. I took an HCG shot tonight (the hormone your body makes in pregnancy -- when you inject it before ovulation, it acts as a mighty LH surge to control timing of the ovulation so that the IUI is timed correctly). My office is only open until noon, so I don't have to worry about missing any more work, I meet DH at the lab at 1:30... man, I hope this works this time. The conditions really look to be optimum -- lots of big eggs, high estradiol level, fluffy endometrium, HCG shot to help timing... please work. Please work. Please work. Think positive thoughts for me, please -- and send all your collective good karma and energy to me...

I'll try to write an update after tomorrow to let you all know how everything went.

I remain ever hopeful,

Amy
