Aimee's Diary EntriesDiary Navigation: |
December 18, 2000
Whew! Another week has flown by! What time is it?? What day is it?? Is Christmas really next Monday?? I have been in the Christmas shopping whirlwind this past week. I have officially finished my Christmas shopping yesterday at 7 p.m. (CST). Yes, this puts me in the ranks of DONE! Give me a hand, please! I am proud of my accomplishment, since last year I was scrambling around in the mall on Christmas Eve.
I was reading my last two entries and I have totally failed to mention TTC and where we are. Here goes: DH got the second round of test results back. He did his second SA and had some blood drawn to check hormone levels. The hormone levels came back totally normal, but his second SA came back even lower, at 400K this time. His motility was at 17 percent and his morphology was at 33 percent. For those that aren't familiar with the technical stuff here, motility was not good and the morphology was normal. Motility is the speed and movement while morphology is the shape and size. The doctor is currently moving offices during December, so we are scheduled to go back into his office in January to discuss our next step in the testing process. He wants to run some more tests and check for blockage. DH had a double hernia surgery done three years ago and the doctor seems to feel that the surgery has caused some blockage in DH's Vas Deferens. So, in honor of the holiday season, we are in a waiting period until his appointment.
The probable next test would be a testicular biopsy. This is a simple procedure done as an outpatient surgery, where the doctor opens the testicle and removes tissue from the testicle to check the cells and sperm in the tissue. Of course, this does not sound fun, but I have to say that DH has been quite the trooper during all this. He went from not wanting to do the SA to scheduling his own appointments and taking the initiative to get us in the right direction. Just one more reason to top onto the million I already have to love him even more. I have also put DH on a vitamin regimen that I got from one of the girls on the Male IF board. She's awesome and a total book of knowledge when it comes to this stuff. Thanks, Amy! I am going to include it for all to read, just in case you would like the information.
1,000-3,000 mg vitamin C (morphology)
500-1,000 mcg B complex (or B12) (morphology)
1,000 mcg vitamin B12 (helps with oligospermia)
(morphology)
200 IU vitamin E (morphology)
30 mg zinc (helps with count too) (morphology)
L-Arginine (motility) (to be taken on an empty stomach
before going to bed)
5 mg folic acid (morphology)
200-400 mcg selenium (motility)
500 IU vitamin A (motility)
300-1,000 mg L-Carnitine (motility)
800 mg or 1 capsule saw palmetto
Eat plenty of mint, broccoli, apples, shallots,
pineapples, ginger, cabbage, parsley and grapes.
Drink at least eight glasses of water per day.
No alcohol. nicotine, marijuana, diesel engine smoke,
lead, cottonseed oil, charred meat.
Keep testicle heat down by wearing boxer shorts. No
intense exercise, no bike riding, no spa baths, take
cold showers.
Have also heard that Tribulus Fuel; Yohimbe; Astralgas root; bee pollen and Siberian ginseng can help, but not sure what with (morphology, motility or count) and not sure of quantities.
Hope this is enlightening to some of you. Just an FYI: We told the urologist about the vitamin regimen and he said that it couldn't hurt and were very impressed that DH would take such a volume of vitamins to help our cause. It's a ton of supplements. I feel sorry for him! It's quite a chore to get down 20 vitamins and supplements. Hopefully, his hard work will pay off!
I have to include a special tribute to my best friend, Dawn. For Christmas this year I want for my special friend to be the lucky one. I want for you to graduate from this place and move out of here. I enjoy our friendship so much and all the common things we share, but it is time for one of us to graduate. So, this Christmas wish is posted for the world to see ... Dawn, I love you! Santa, bring her a baby! (Not to mention all the other great girls here too. )
Anne, my dear friend from the Pregnancy Today diaries, I want a special New Year's present for you! Baby G is due Jan. 12 (right??), but I know that you want more than anything to have a New Year's Eve bundle of joy. So, I am requesting that Father Time or whoever can help out here ... that you get that present! Sprinkling my magic dust so it works!
Happy holidays to everyone this year. Enjoy the last tidbits of 2000 because 2001 is moving in. Fast!
Love always,
Aimee
