Dr.'s appt... a new approach?? 6.8.07
June 8, 2007
Okay, so our appt. was Tuesday and today is Friday but whatever... not much changes in this ttc world these days anyhow.
Our NP was really friendly and caring and knew before I said it that I had pcos (based on our history of clomid and my discussing weight loss on a low-carb diet). She never mentioned anything about "you need to loose weight before we go any farther" as I've experienced before... which rocks (although I've been trying and thanks to weight watchers am down nearly 20 lbs since Feb).
She put me on metformin. She said that she feels that this will help and that most people conceive on it alone (although that's what I heard with clomid so I'm pretty dang skeptical). She gave me two months of it, and said that we need and hope to see a period this cycle and then next month to go ahead and get our last month of clomid off our old ob/gyn and try the two together. So, since Tuesday night I've been on 500mg metformin 2 x a day. ... she warned me of possible bowel issues, but I've not had anything that I would consider abnormal (but hey, I have IBS and a crazy wild bowel area anyhow... there's a reason my nick-name is "gastastic").
Meanwhile, they are petitioning my insurance so that I can see their RE (aka "infertillity specialist"). So, if we don't conceive within the next two months my guess is that we'll be going for the IUI route??
And... I'm still unsure if I'd go IVF at this point.
I must go... we have two parties to get to tonight and another tomorrow. It's odd to see a kid turning two, knowing our journey started just after he was born. And... to realize that even after all the optimistic thoughts and feelings, we're still not even up to home plate yet.
Take care everyone... and thanks Anne and Tiffany for your comments.
~Amanda~
