Fertility Crushers
Are Common Mistakes Keeping You from Conceiving?
By Teri Brown
Other mistakes couples make before they begin treatments include the following:
- Many women wait too long before trying to conceive. Fertility starts to decline at age 35.
- If you are 35 or over and do not get pregnant naturally within a few months, seek the help of a qualified reproductive endocrinologist.
Mistakes After Starting TreatmentOnce treatments have started, it can feel as if your life is no longer your own. Dr. Zhang says this can be a problem for many couples. "Infertility can be very stressful," he says. "Many women and couples do not seek out the professional counseling they may need to help them through the process."
Other common mistakes during treatment include these:
- Seeking help from a clinic that has a one-size-fits-all mentality. Make sure your doctor is focused on treatments and protocols that will work best for you – a cookie cutter approach may not make sense.
- Many women waste precious time with IUIs, when IVF may be what they need.
- Don't give up after one or two failed IVF cycles – infertility treatment can be a long process. Remember, giving up too soon may e a mistake you will always regret.
