The challenges of infertile couples in the developing world are complex: the immense social stigma that comes with lack of children, especially for women; the preventable nature of much of infertility; and the lack of affordable, culturally-acceptable solutions.

However, as many couples struggling with infertility in North America know, these problems are not restricted to people in other countries. Cultural, religious and financial factors can also be enormous barriers for many couples right here at home. Infertile women know what it is to hide away from pregnant friends, baby showers and well-meaning questions. While we are blessed in North America to often have more options, some aspects of infertility are sadly universal.
