Calculating Baby's Arrival Date

Every month, typically 14 days before the first day of your period, one of your ovaries releases an egg (ovum). The sperm has somewhere between 24 and 48 hours to fertilize the egg. If the egg is not fertilized, conception does not occur and you will get your period on schedule. If you don't... congratulations! One of the first things you and everyone else will want to know is: when are you due?
Your health care provider will probably refer to that magic date as your EDD, meaning estimated due date (though it is also sometimes called the outdated term EDC Estimated Date of Confinement). Keep in mind that this date is only an estimate.
The standard method to calculate your official due date is to count ahead 280 days from the first day of your last menstrual period (LMP). A second method for calculating your due date you can probably do in your head! Just take the date (day number) of your LMP and add 7, then subtract three months. For example:
LMP: April 14
Add 7: April 21 (14+7)
Count back 3 months: January 21
These methods and our due date calculator assume you have a 28-day menstrual cycle:
Day 1: Your period begins (LMP).

if the girl didnt write down when her last period was how do u estimate? she said her last period was the last week of sept and the beginning of october she also said her period doesnt last 7 days, she said she spotted in late october but no period i estimated she got prego oct 4- 17 which would make her due round july 5 ? did i add right? lol she said she got prego oct 30 or 31 but i dont see how thats possible if she dint have a period??

To Anonymous: Um, if you believe that you conceived on May 1st, you would be due around January 22nd. Have you not went to the MD?

Anonymous- with my baby I had discharge about the date my cycle would have been. I believe it happen the first 2-3 months. Of course, talking with you health care provider be best. I called my midwife when it happen and she asked me about how heavy it was and if it could be about the right time for a cycle to start. She calmed my fears!
