Tubal Ligation Reversal

Motherhood Reborn with a Reversed Tubal Ligation

By Jessica Williams

Pages:  1  2  3

Fortunately, many tubal ligations do not involve the fimbriae, but rather the fallopian tube itself. Depending on how much of the tube is damaged from the original operation, a micro-surgeon can attempt to repair the damage and restore fertility. There are many things for the surgeon to consider, however. Here are some of the questions a surgeon will ask before attempting the procedure:

  • When was the procedure done and what type of procedure was it? This information is usually obtained through medical records and your account of the procedure.
  • Was there any damage to the tubes prior to the original surgery, either from sexually transmitted diseases, other infections or disorders or previous surgeries or ectopic pregnancies? The surgeon will review your medical history, but will probably want to take a look at the fallopian tubes either by laporoscopy or ultrasound before attempting to repair them.
  • How much damage was done to the tubes during the operation? Thisis the most important factor in determining how successful the reversal will be. This will also be determined through laparoscopy.

So true. I did the operation at 21 with my second child. Divorced my husband a year later, and now at 33 have remarried a wonderful man, and will love to have a child with him.
