So Long to Soy?
New Studies Cast a Shadow of Doubt
By Teri Brown
Karl K. Rozman, Ph.D., professor in the Department of Pharmacology, Toxicology and Therapeutics at the University of Kansas Medical Center and a member of the panel, says women should not be alarmed. "I don't think that eating a lot of soy food would effect conception one way or another," he says. "However, it is always worthwhile to change your habits if you have difficulties conceiving. Therefore, a woman should cut soy food down or entirely out for a while. If she still doesn't conceive, at least she will know that it had nothing to do with soy."
Still, the question remains. Can the genistein in soy cause reproductive issues? More studies are need in order for women to make educated decisions. For now, as in everything, commonsense and moderation are key.
