Predicting Ovulation Using Saliva

A Review of the Ovulite Fertility Test

Tough to answer, but I would say it depends on what you're looking for.

It's great to give you an indication of when you're ovulating if you're strict about using it every morning. And it's much cheaper (Ovulite costs about $60) in the long run than buying LH urine test kits month after month. You can use Ovulite indefinitely according to the manufacturers (that is assuming you don't break it).

But to be honest, I never felt like I completely trusted it, as I was never sure I had enough on the slide, there were no air bubbles, that my drink of water hadn't affected it, etc. Somehow, when that line turns blue on the LH kit, I'm just pretty darn sure.

For more information about Ovulite, log on to www.ovulite.com or call 1-800-923-9023.

Tips on Using Saliva-Based Ovulation Predictors
From someone who's tried two saliva tests on the market, here are a few tips:

  • Don't knock it over! I did this once and broke the light bulb, rendering the entire thing useless. And the nature of the product is to stand on its end, which makes it an easy target, especially if you have animals and kids. Best bet is to put it in a cabinet where it can't be easily tipped over.
  • Make it a routine. Do it every morning around the time of ovulation – so you don't forget until after you've had you're morning donut.
  • Record your results each month so you start to see a pattern and can predict ovulation.
  • Clean the lens every morning before using it.
