TESE and MESA

Hope for Men Battling Infertility

Adele and Fred Jackmovich of Burbank, Calif. wanted a child of their own, but Fred had a vasectomy 10 years earlier. Because the vasectomy had occurred so many years before, the Jackmovich family was told their only chance for conceiving was artificial insemination with sperm from a donor. They accepted their limitations and went ahead with the insemination. "We decided that it wouldn't matter who the donor was, that it would be our child, and we would love it no matter what," Adele says.

The couple conceived with the donated sperm, but a short time later miscarried. "I was devastated," she says. "Having a child was the only thing I had ever wanted. I had prayed for a child since I was a little girl. Luckily, I had a lot of good friends that got me through it."

They braved five more rounds of artificial insemination before turning to Dr. Acacio and his fertility team for help. For the first time the Jackmovich family had real hope for a baby they could create together. Dr. Acacio was able to use TESE and the ICSI/IVF combination to successfully implant a viable fetus into Adele.

Discovering she was pregnant with the sperm of her own husband was a moment Adele will never forget. "It was my every dream come true," she says. "I almost feel guilty because I had so many people praying for me, and we were finally expecting our own baby."

For the many men who are struggling with infertility, there is hope. Advanced procedures to retrieve sperm, coupled with the help of ICSI and IVF, increase chances of creating the family of your dreams.
