The FAQs on HPTs

Home Pregnancy Test Basics

Pages:  1  2  3  4

Is the pregnancy test result any indication of the health or length of my pregnancy?
No. While a pregnancy test can show a faint positive sign if hCG levels are low, this doesn't mean seeing a darker positive result means your pregnancy is further along than you suspected. If you get a faint positive and then a darker positive later in the week, this does not necessarily indicate you're hCG levels are rising normally. A pregnancy test is only useful when detecting the presence of hCG, not the rate at which it is rising or how many days or weeks you've been pregnant.

I got a negative test result last week but I still haven't started my period. Should I test again?
Yes. Most home pregnancy test instructions state that you should take another test if you haven't started your period a week after you received a negative result. Many health care providers also recommend testing again because the test may not of picked up the hCG in your system. Call your health care provider if you have questions.

What should I do if I have questions about how to use the test or how to read the results?
Call the toll free number on the box. Most companies have a highly trained support staff willing to answer your questions free of charge. If you can't find a toll free number, call your health care provider.
