"Dear Sandra..."
A Letter From a Friend
By Sandra Joslyn Tallarico
helpful. It's good for you in any number of ways. Not only does it cut your risk of diabetes in half, it gets you out of the house, and out of yourself.
Fresh air never hurt anyone (except John Travolta in The Boy in the Plastic Bubble, and you're not him). Getting out and exercising can make just about any situation seem less bleak.
I'm not a doctor myself, but most, if not all of them, claim that exercise is a tried and true mood elevator, and after watching Cindy Crawford's pregnancy workout video, God knows I need my mood elevated.
I never would have dreamed how much this 65-pound menace could have helped me deal with my personal pain of being infertile, but she has. She's cute, I get to take care of her, she's always happy to see me and on top of all that, she gets me out and exercising. What a deal!
If dogs aren't your bag, maybe a cat will tickle your whiskers. What variety of pet you choose isn't important. Again, my aforementioned generic doctor-units acknowledge the validity of pet-ownership as a way to cope with life in general. Who of us couldn't use a little more unconditional love in our lives?
Every one of us has talents to share with others around us. And the most precious thing we can give to anyone is time. (Excuse me a minute while I kick myself ... there.) All of us have families and neighbors and communities. It doesn't take much effort to look about us and think of something we could do for someone. And it's very difficult to think of your own problems while you're helping someone else with theirs. I've done it, but it's taken a great deal of work on my part-and personally, I don't recommend it!
